Will books record the county clerk's copy of original wills which were probated in the county court. The wills are used to dispose of the testator's property and estate. Will books may include date of will, names of testator and beneficiaries, value of estate, description of property, amount willed to each heir, date probated, attestation of county court, and date recorded.

Caldwell, the fifty-first Kentucky county, was formed in 1809 from part of Livingston County. It is named for John Caldwell. Princeton is its county seat. The courthouse burned in 1864. The Caldwell County Clerk, whose duties are numerous and diverse, records and maintains various legal instruments and Fiscal Court records.
